On the QT @ B Sweet
September 16th was the first evening for
On The Q.T. (Queer Thursday), a weekly night featuring rotating
local DJ’s at B Sweet. It’s an all inclusive
vibe that brings a steady mix of varied music and diverse
people together.
The first evening featured DJ Stephen Byfield playing a mix
of hip hop, deep house, and lover rock reggae.
September 23rd saw DJ Winnie spinning her clever mix of funked
up beats. This was a special evening in collaboration
with the Toronto Bisexual Network.
September 30th brought forth DJ Triple-X providing the musical
interludes with an eclectic mix of tunes that included: 70’s
K-Tel hits, classic new wave, 60’s trip-out, current
indie climbers, and crazy-ass covers.
Surprise performances and special guests are planned for the
near future. Stay tuned.

Knotty Knights @ Lot 16
Knotty Knights launched on September 18th
at Lot 16 in the heart of the Queen West Art and Design district.
“The Lot” is an intimate bar within the former
confines of the infamous Elvis Restaurant.
Owners Penny Rose and Heather Fox opened the bar in hopes
of attracting a diverse crowd at this newly rejuvenated far
west section of Queen West. Reasonable bar prices and
friendly attentive bar staff make this a great spot to meet
for a drink, or stay the night.
Now there is more reason to hang around and enjoy those reasonably
priced cocktails. DJ Triple-X has a residency on a rotating
two week schedule every other Saturday night. Expect
to hear “tunes you never heard before, haven’t
heard in a while, or want to hear more of.”
A sampling of what might be heard during the evening: 70’s
K-Tel hits, classic new wave, 60’s trip-out, current
indie climbers, and crazy-ass covers.
Grab a table and chat with your friends or saddle up to the
bar and meet some new ones.

Alphaville @ B Sweet
Alphaville touched down at B Sweet on Friday September
24th with an eclectic mix of local musicians, performance
artists, visual artists, and multi-media displays. Named
after the 1960’s Jean-Luc Godard movie, this evening
created a lighthearted, bizarre and atmospheric utopia.
Several artists were given the task of creating a space within
a space. Heart Wolven developed a series of pieces depicting
her interpretations of Alphaville 2004. Ryan Hughes
presented a mixture of multi-media endeavors: Project Weston
and The Ahmed El-Tywil Project. Navdeep unveiled her
collection of abstract distractions and Kristie Macor displayed
her photographic depictions of life as it is.
Several live performances provided non-stop entertainment
that included on the rise comedian and host Jared Sales (www.jaredsales.com). Mysterion the Mind
Reader (www.mysterionthemindreader.com)
provided some crowd pleasing antics with his demonstrations
in the paranormal, and there was a special spoken word delivery
by Priscilla. Harmonious grooves were provided by the
smooth vibes of Jahmalama (www.jahmalama.com)
that live by the mantra “positive vibrations for the
healing of the nations.”
DJ Triple-X provided the musical interludes with an eclectic
mix of tunes that may include: 70’s K-Tel hits, classic
new wave, 60’s trip-out, current indie climbers, and
crazy-ass covers.
B Sweet opened its doors earlier this summer with little notice,
but it’s fast becoming the spot to be on the far reaches
of Queen West. It’s comfortable, welcoming and
always different. The venue tagline states it all: The
Art of Culture. www.b-sweet.com
Promoter Bryen Dunn continues to provide a cutting edge environment
by hosting irregular events throughout the west end that “bring
beings together to celebrate all good things about life”.
