Wall of Shame

Suction Saturdaze - Wroxeter, 1564 Queen St W, Saturday Oct 15, 10PM - 2AM

Lounge Music with a Twist

"The start of something cool" was how it was described by some. Music ranged from the low-beat of Fantastic Plastic Machine and Kraftwerk to sonic-boom of Metric and Franz Ferdinand.

This small venue offers a great dining experience by day, and owner Jennifer wants it to be the alt-danceteria of the far west reaches of Toronto.

Be one of the first to witness the continuation of Parkdale's transition.

Triple-X Thursdaze

Triple – X Thursdaze is a monthly showcase that features live performances with DJ mixes of current and past hard-edged alternative beats. The October 20th edition featured Doc Pickles, Pink Leotard and kQuattro.

Doc Pickles describes himself as Daniel Johnson meets Russian Futurists meets Bob Pollard meets the Shaggs. He’s a one piece music machine that combines the use of two organs along with his strapping vocals. His recent release, “No Fire Day”, debuted at number two on CIUT and "Teach Your Pets to Smoke" was chosen for pod cast on John Sakamoto's Anti-Hit list.

The Doc opened the show with a quirky 30 minute set that had ears perked from all corners of the bar. Listen closely or you miss the best rants.

Pink Leotard is a two-piece-outfit that creates short pop ditties. Paige provides strong vocals while pounding away on her drums, while Mikey controls the guitar and noise factor to create passionate sounds with some dance beats. Watch for the soon to be released EP, “Big Hitties”.

Mike and Paige know how to creat the "1-2-3-4 Ramones" short two-minute power pop songs. Fast and furious and taking no prisoners.

kQuattro are an electro-garage duo that makes use of analog synthesizers and guitars to create a beat heavy concoction of Godzilla riffs and volume. The team is Mike Marshall on drums and David Psutka on guitar, synthesizer and vocals. Their first release, "Grow up and Blow up" EP, is scheduled for early 2006.

Described by one scenster as "Death From Above 1979" sounding. Watch as they assault the world around you.

Interlude noises provided by DJ Triple – X.

HALLOWEEN 2005

Pop Trash - Little Shop of Whores - Saturday October 29th

DJ’s Shane Percy and Triple-X teamed up to present a ghoulish affair within the haunted confines of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. This event promises a night of “sexy souls seeking something scary.”

DJ K-Tel continued with his regular residency in the Cabaret spinning a variety of top 40, R n B, and more. DJ Shane Percy (Grapefruit) and DJ Triple-X (Triple-X Thursdaze) mixed it up in the Chamber with an eclectic selection of retro, new wave, gothic, industrial and electro beats.

Lena Over acted ever so graciously as the "hostess with the mostest" by acting as the judicial guardian of costumed freaks. A full stage of wannabes paraded around as Ms. Over booted them off one-by-one until the final winners reigned supreme. Congratulations to the Golden Girls who walked away with the grand prize of a bar tab and hard cold cash.

The Details: Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, 12 Alexander Street, Saturday October 29th, 10PM-2AM, 416 975 8555, $10 or $8 w/ costume. It’s also a fundraiser for Buddies.

Halloween - A Gothic Affair - Sunday October 30th

Toronto-Goth presented Return to the Catacombs Halloween Bash - featuring bands (both local and international), DJs, vendors, fashion show, contests and more.

Toronto-goth.com has been presenting the weekly Return to the Catacombs night since late 2004. This is Toronto's only weekly all-ages dark club night. Each Sunday, DJs Steven and guests spin Goth/industrial at the Vatikan, located at 1032 Queen St. W. Some nights feature special performances. To celebrate our favourite holiday, Halloween, there will be a very special Return to the Catacombs on Sunday October 30th.

While there has never been a cover for the regular weekly Catacombs events, there was one this evening, but it was well worth the price of admission.

This event will featured ten bands: Perdition, HYPOFIXX (New York City), New Love Army, A Random Exit, Anti-Hero, MDM, Sangsara, Restricted Viewing, Trench Run, and Pleasure the Priestess.

DJs spun between the bands. The Torture Technician returned to Catacombs all the way from NY along with DJ Triple X (of Mars Bar fame), EBM (CIUT.fm) as well as DJ DemEntia (toronto-goth.com).

Minx Clothing presented a costume fashion show late into the evening.

A festive atmosphere would not be complete without vendors displaying their dark wares including, Black Orchid Designs, Reaperz Ripperz, Dawn to Dusk Gifts and Zombie's Brain Juices. Most of the bands also had merchandise available for purchase. There were also lots of spooky door prizes. Kudos to Luke for hosting all evening.
