Knotty
Knights - CMW Edition - March 3
DJ Triple-X continued with
his annual homage to Canadian musicians as part of Canadian
Music Week. The traditon is gaining notoriety as many packed
Lot 16 to hear the latest from Platinum Blonde to Metric. Who's
says Canadians aren't electic? With icons from Neil Young and
BTO to DFA1979 and Les Georges Lenigrad, we are ready to rock
the free world.
From 10pm to 2am it was
all Canuck Content, and the requests came in fast and furious.
Paper lists were even being compiled and dropped off. All in
all, a very fun night with no repeats...well except for one
that Joanna had requested in exchange for a shot of Jagger (Sherry
Kean's "I Want You Back").
Don't miss next year!

Sleazy Disease @ Sneaky
Dee's - 431
College Street, March 16,
9PM to 2AM
Excellent evening with some amazing bands.
Rasta Impasta
poured out their hearts with bazookas
and lung power. Beth
In Battle Mode gave it all
they got and got the crowd moving closer to the stage, which
is kind of difficult for the stand and pose Indie crowd, especially
during the week. kQuattro
let loose their super powers once again.
This time I heard comparisons to Add X to N for one bystander
in the crowd. They are just completing their first CD release.
Wait, listen and enjoy. Finally Ca
Va Mal hit the stage just after midnight
(and the kids were itching to get home to bed). They remind
me of Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet with an abrasive in your
face singer that grunts and growns and makes no sense. Total
fun! That was it. Lights out. School night. Gotta sleep.
DJ Triple-X spun whatever
in between sets.

The Green Edition - Spiced Up with Irish
Flare - Happy St. Patty's Day
DJ Triple-X
played naughty tunes all night long that were guaranteed to
make you puke GREEN.
A selection of Irish bands and jigs were inter-mixed
with punk, funk and junk. There was plenty of drinking and dancing
and one bartender was overheard stating..."This was our
best night ever."

Hoedown
Saturday Afternoon - March 25
Hoedown Saturday Afternoon touched
down on Saturday March 25th at the newly renovated Gladstone
Hotel Melody Bar. This monthly event happens 4pm to 7pm on the
last Saturday of every month with host Deejay Daddy-O
playing all the best in old-time Country-and-Western classics,
including Bluegrass, Cajun, Acadian, Zydeco, Rockabilly, Honky
Tonk and Hillbilly.
Dust off your dancing shoes and come party to the sounds of
Kitty Wells, Faron Young, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Flatt and
Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams and Stompin
Tom Connors.
Special Live Performance
“Toronto Country Twanger”, Andre Skinner,
will be performing a couple of acoustic sets during the afternoon.
Skinner is lead vocalist for the local four-piece country/rock
band, Canteen
Knockout that’s playing the following evening
at the Cadillac Lounge (1296 Queen St W).
“The Gladdy” was once a landmark institution for
local country music fans that would flock to the former Bronco’s
bar for a night of country music and two-stepping. Hoedown Saturday
Afternoon brings back that tradition “for those who remember
the days and for those who missed it”, says Deejay Daddy-O.
The Gladstone Hotel, built in 1889, is the oldest continuously
operating hotel in Toronto. This Victorian era building also
maintains the last hand operated elevator in the city. The kitchen
is scheduled to reopen shortly so stop by, grab a pint and some
grub, and enjoy the sleek-sounds of Deejay Daddy-O this Saturday
afternoon.

Midweek
Mayhem - March 29
Triple-X Productions presented Midweek Mayhem,
a monthly showcase spotlighting indie bands and DJ’s that
happens the last Wednesday of every month.
Your
Band Sucks (formerly Doc Pickles)
opened Midweek Mayhem again and brought his crazy antics to
the stage with friends Dave and Mike, playing all new tunes
as promised. His throwback to the 80’s combines the use
of two keyboards along with his off beat ranting.
Rasta in Pasta mixed it up with bazookas, yips
and various other vocal outbursts. Ashley and Jon got together
a few months back and decided to do their own thing, outside
of the various other projects they are involved with.
V3
are a 3-piece straight on rock and blues outfit, reminiscent
of streaks of Pat Metheny, Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix. They
are currently riding high in the annual Emergenza Festival with
hopes of going to the finals next month. Guitarist/Vocalist
Ron Vanderzwan has been active in the music industry since the
80’s, both as a musician and producer. Their show tonight
was quite polished including classic covers and original tunes.
Formed in 1998, Organical
is committed to exploring the shadows between genres. Influences
range from early heavy metal, Spaghetti Westerns, neo-industrial
music and 60's French pop music. They create tales of machines
and monsters, filling their music with ever-expanding spirals
of beauty and desolation. They have two CD releases, the latest
being “The Elementals”. Lead vocalist is most known
for his Industrial Metal project Malhavoc from the early 90’s.
Tonight's show was more acoustic in nature to go with the vibe,
but lead singer Steve says they still know how to rock with
the best of them.
Interlude noises are provided by DJ Triple – X and DJ
Islington. With the biggest crowd yet and quite a few regulars,
this is fast becoming the monthly event in Toronto to be at.
