We came, we conquered, and we survived another edition of The
Mars Bar.
The
night began by playing the new Beastie Boys CD, To The 5 Boroughs, in
its entirety. Don’t believe anyone who says this is shit. It really is
a great CD that proves these guys still kick butt with the rest of
them. Later in the evening, there was the opportunity to take home a
copy of the CD by coming up with a 5 syllable word. And, no
supercalafrachaexpalidocious is way more than 5 syllables. However, we
did give all copies away to those with enough smarts in them.

This
evening also saw the amazing art duo performance of Danse Du Serpent
who presented their unique show of music, art and visuals. Tariza and
Marsl played two sets that were well received by all in attendance.
Tariza also provided the ambience for the evening by filling the walls
with some of her previous works.

There
were visuals from the first Track and Field event held last month just
outside that amazing place called Guelph. Keep your eyes and ears open
for their next event, which I am hoping will be annual. It was a two
day rendezvous that provided camping, bands, sports, and the company of
great individuals all for less than the price of a two-four.
David
and Andre arrived at 1130pm and started the party with some hard
hitting alternative grooves. David spun the best in retro 80’s for the
earlier part with Andre taking over the controls for the latter part of
the evening, with his exclusive Electroclash mixes. The mix of music
matched the mix of people. Hey, did I say this was supposed to make
sense?
I
always like to find out how people hear of The Mars Bar and I’d like to
share a couple of the stories so far. Our first evening back in April,
there was one couple who were in town from Winnipeg to see the
Kraftwerk concert. They found out about The Mars Bar through a friend
of theirs who lives in Holland who had emailed them the information.
This
month, a stray soul showed up shortly after 1am looking for adventure.
He had spent the day enjoying the Pride festivities downtown, but when
he had enough he wanted to escape the crowds. While chatting with an
infamous transvestite, he was informed that if he kept walking west
along Queen Street, he would come to a large very old hotel, and to
just walk inside and he would find what he was looking for. Welcome to
The Mars Bar.
The
evening finished up shortly after 2am, but not before some all out
go-go dancing in the Ballroom windows facing out onto Queen Street. Who
says we don’t want to be noticed?
So
stay tuned for more exciting events coming up this summer and beyond.
The Mars Bar is a concept that you need to witness to be part of. Won’t
you join us?
Please
note: This will be our last event at The Gladstone Hotel. Stay tuned
for our next adventure.
