Knotty Knights - Celebrating Canada Day @ Lot
16
The July 1st edition was a celebration of
all things Canadian. DJ Triple-X
played 4 full hours of Canadian content. Staying with the Knotty
Knights format, it was an evening of “tunes never heard
before or not heard in a while.” Here's a sampling of
what was heard during the evening: 60’s trip-out, 70’s
K-Tel hits, 80’s classic new wave and street beats, current
indie climbers, and crazy-ass covers.
Take Long John Baldry and Stompin Tom and mix it up with some
Steppenwolf and Rush, add two parts Metric and Controller, Controller….and
you get the idea.
This cool hang-out in the Queen/Dovercourt area is a favourite
of many locals. Reasonable bar prices and friendly attentive
bar staff make this a great spot to meet for a drink, or stay
the night. Grab a table and chat with your friends or saddle
up to the bar and meet some new ones.

Triple-X Thursdays @ The Drake
The second installment of Triple-X Thursdays happened on July
7th. It was a late arriving crowd with the regular mix of scensters.
The Parkdale
Hookers took to the stage shortly after 11PM. They
are a minimalist rock and roll-antiglam-old-school punk trio
of bay street accountants. They're everything rock and rollers
shouldn’t be, right down to their business suit attire.
However, they do know how to handle their instruments and write
short-to-the-point songs. Look for their debut CD, Polyester
Fire Starter, at local CD shops, online at their website, or
at the show. Boys Just Wanna Have Fun.
Kelly and
the Kelly Girls were explosive as always and satisfied
their legion of fans who turned out to cheer them on. They are
fronted by Kelly Clipperton, former front man of My Dear Heretic
and Merkury Burn, and vocally compared to the Goth-Father Peter
Murphy. They have something quite unique with their theatrical
performance style that combines a musical mixture of swing,
ska, glam, and punk. Their debut CD, Swing Swing, is available
at various locations and at the show, and they recently performed
at Toronto’s NXNE Festival.
This night also featured Super 8 film projections by Nadia
Sistonen and an art showcase by Jaison Gibson.
Sistonen originally hails from Paris, France and has been creating
provocative flicks since the early 90’s. She’s also
performed in a couple of experimental noise bands and hopes
to continue making movies and experimenting. The black and white
short, “Anti-Sleekness Was Always My Weakness”,
is sure to awaken the senses. Gibson creates his “politically
charged-nature driven” art work as a means of bringing
awareness to the current state of our universe, hoping to provoke
others to take control of the future.
Triple – X Thursdays features live performances with
DJ mixes of current and past hard-edged electronic beats. It’s
definitely geared to the avant-garde crowd seeking something
new in club land.
Interlude noises provided by DJ Triple
– X. Dress up, dance, be yourself.

York Food Bank and features Cougar
Party and The Hussies.
This year more than ever there is a need for non-perishable
items such as rice, tuna, soups and peanut butter. Thanks for
your help.
