Black Christmas
@
The Gladstone Hotel
DJ’s 4est and Triple-X teamed up to bring you a very
special edition of the weekly Hump Day Bump on December 21st,
appropriately titled “Black Christmas”
Along with twisted holiday tunes, there was plenty of punk,
electro, beats, and other ditties to keep asses shaking. As
well, the night featured vintage videos and gigantic stockings
as the backdrop.
There was also be a special appearance by “The Man in
Black”, a “Mistletoe Make-Out Area”, and “Psychic
Mistress Krystyna” doing her special holiday readings.
Festive attire was all the rage!!!
The night was geared to the holiday misfit and dysfunctional
soul. It was one of the last fun nights before meeting up with
your “other” family. Word on the street was that
it was the busiest and rauchiest Hump Day Bump to date. More
to come?

Holiday Blast Off 2005
Triple-X Productions presented a Holiday Blast Off on Thursday
December 22nd that featuredlocal artists and musicians who came
together to raise awareness for the hungry and underprivileged
in the city. It was a special benefit event for the Fort
York Food Bank.
Leif Bloomquist was classically trained in clarinet and percussion
as a child, and now plays with EBM, Dark-Wave, and Techno sounds
to create the futuristic vibe of his one-person outfit, Schema
Factor. Recording and performing with this project since
the early 90’s has given him the musical outlet he craves.
The hypnotic and haunting live shows are definitely a combination
of electronics and industrial beats. Special guest collaborator
this evening was the famed Madame HAIR, whose vocal improvisations
will add an extra dimension to the music.
kQuattro are an electro-garage duo that makes use of analog
synthesizers and guitars to create a beat heavy concoction of
Godzilla riffs and volume. The team is Micheal McDonald on drums
and David Psutka on guitar, synthesizer and vocals. Their first
release, "Grow up and Blow up" EP, is scheduled for
early 2006.
As the name implies, Girl
and the Machine is a girl and a bunch of machines, namely
other musicians. The 5-piece outfit combines art, music, and
video to create a treat for the five senses. Malaysian born
multilingual-strict-vegetarian front girl, Jackie Kiew, handles
the seductive vocals and electronic samples. The resulting sounds
come off as a combination of tribal dance, psychedelic rock,
and space-pop. The lyrical content is most often spiritual,
political, and poetical.
DJ Triple-X mixed it up before, between and after performances.

Knotty Knights
Mary XXXmas
Knotty Knights presented Mary XXXmas on Friday December 23rd,
a night that featured a selection of alt-holiday tunes that
you won’t hear around the family dinner table.
DJ Triple-X spins an eclectic mix of tripped-out, psychopathic
tunes that nobody really wants to hear, but they can’t
get enough of - 60’s rawk and soul, 70’s disc-go,
80’s alt- new wave, indie kidz, mash ups, and crazy-ass
covers.
It was a festive evening all around with many getting their
last drunk on before the big day.
Lot 16 is located in the heart of the Queen West Art and Design
district. It’s THE happening spot located withinthe former
confines of the infamous Elvis Restaurant. Did I hear a request
for “Burning Love”?

Wroxeter
Suction Saturdaze presented
a “F**K New Year’s Eve” party
December 31st, 2005 until January 1st, 2006
No Cover – No Attitude
Complimentary Munchies - Midnight Champagne - Party Toys
Dirty Beats All Night Long - Rock-Electro-Retro-Funk-Punk
Wow, it was quite the party. The place was sold out for dinner
and jammed to the rafters for the XXX Party that started at
10PM and went LATE. It was the biggest crowd yet and staff were
hard pressed to keep up with the copious amounts of alcohol
being sucked back. A great way to fall into a new year.
Suction Saturdaze happens every Saturday at Wroxeter in the
heart of the Parkdale, where everyone calls you “Norm”.
“The Wrox” is an intimate bar along the far reaches
of “Real Parkdale”. It’s sketchy, hip and
happening. Crowds are starting to gravitate.
DJ Triple-X spins a selection of “tunes you never heard
before, haven’t heard in a while, or want to hear more
of.” A sampling of what might be heard during the evening:
60’s trip-out, 70’s one-hit wonders, 80’s
classic new wave, indie-dope, and crazy-ass covers - Rawk, Roll
and Soul.
Reasonable bar prices and friendly attentive bar staff attract
a diverse crowd that makes this a great spot to meet for a drink,
or stay the night. Grab a table and chat with your friends or
saddle up to the bar and meet some new ones.
Martini specials all night long - 10 beers on tap - 60 in bottles
- 30 wine selections - huge spirit collection of bar and premium
brands.
Beware: Dancing can be infectious at Parkdale's
newest hot spot and "dance lounge".
