– X Thursdays @ The Bagel
Triple – X Thursdays features live performances with
DJ mixes of current and past hard-edged alternative beats. It
happens every first Thursday of the month at various locations.
The August 4th edition featuredGalaxy
and Cougar Party.
Cougar Party are
the kind of girls you want to take home to momma. Loud and abrasive,
just what you need to make an impression at the family reunion.
This trio knows how to rock and roll and have been making headlines
around Toronto. They can be described as hardcore, punk and
metal, but its best left to the audience to decide. Loyal followers
gathered at the front of the stage for the full effect.
Opening the night were the trio of R n R gal power is Galaxy,
a fearsome-threesome who wails with punk influences of 80’s
wavers Siouxsie and the Banshees, fully focusing on the banshee.
Mix in one part Sleater Kinney and a dash of Chicks on Speed
and you’ve got the perfect concoction. Their fans came
out, and they danced their butts off. Catch them next time you
see them listed.
Interlude noises were provided by DJ Triple – X.

Tonight was also a Summer Food Drive for the Fort
York Food Bank. This year more than ever there is a need
for non-perishable items such as rice, tuna, soups and peanut
butter. Thanks for your support.

Safe & Sound
No More Silence – No More Violence - August 20
What an amazing
night for a great cause. Partiers arrived early to catch the
sounds of DJ Triple-X at 9pm and for the "band
of the moment", Dance Yourself to Death,
who opened up the show at 10pm. Keep an eye open
for these gals as they are soon to take over the city. Their
cover of Teenage Kicks makes ya wanna screan and shout all through
the night. They've got some upcoming gigs and will be part of
the Triple-X/TRADE party at The Bagel on Friday September 2nd,
along with The Secret Handshake.
The Guest Bedroom followed with a
great set of tunes. Amazing vocals and guitar licks by Sandi
Falconer along with some swift synth sounds made for an awesome
set fo tunes. Organizer of the event, Shannon Mitchell from
Cougar Party, took to the stage next
for their full on audience assault. There were more than a few
people who were saying "what?" alot as their eardrums
were likely still ringing far into the night. Scandalnavia
took the stage just after midnight and gave a
great performance as usual. Their rock-rap sound and multi-vocalist
approach is a hit with their loyal followers. Do you want to
go faster?
Lisa Foad of Trash and Ready was
the lovely and talented host of the evening, and DJ
Triple-X finished off the evening in fine drunken style.
It was a fundraiser with all proceeds donated to Interval House
– Toronto’s safe place for abused women and their
children.
