Midweek Mayhem - April
26
Triple-X Productions presents Midweek Mayhem,
a monthly showcase spotlighting indie bands and DJ’s that
happens the last Wednesday of every month.
The
Imports
Appropriately named, The Imports bring five different musical
influences from five different ethnic backgrounds. Formed in
early 2005 they already have garnished top notches at the local
Jam Van Battle of the Bands. They have one self-titled demo
to the name and a full release in the works.
Clarity
in Chaos
Four piece indie outfit from the Halton Hills area. They produce
a great wall of sound, psychedelic bursts of popism.
Apples,
Apples
Formed in late 2005, this female-fronted Hamilton based band
are four friends who share a common love for art, dancing, music,
and composing. The result is a collection of disco-rock tunes
that fill any room with pure love of whatever.
Coast
Guard
Originally from various parts of Newfoundland and now based
in Toronto, the four members of Coast Guard gravitated together
naturally, and have been around in various incarnations since
2000. They have an EP release that was picked up by various
independent radio networks, and they have plans to release a
full-length very soon. The band has developed their own unique
sound that mixes powerful and evocative songwriting with explosive
bursts of energetic guitar pop.
Interlude noises are provided by DJ Triple – X and DJ
Islington.

Pop Musik-
April 28
Berlin
- Toronto - London - New York
Triple-X Productions presents “Pop
Musik”, a one-night only affair for those who
dare -a musical experience from four different cities –
happening Friday April 28th.
Opening the show is Berlin’s
Dada
Pogrom, making their first appearance in Toronto.
They create a “tech noir” vibe by mixing audio and
visual that stands alone in its genre. Abstractionist “K”
expresses the darkness that surrounds all the works of man and
nature. Latest CD release was produced by Anthony Fu Valcic
(Marilyn Manson, Skinny Puppy). Prepare to meet the Nu Dark
Wave.
Toronto’s kQuattro,
an electro-garage duo that make use of analog synthesizers and
guitars to create a beat heavy concoction of Godzilla riffs
and volume. The team is Mike Marshall on drums and David Psutka
on guitar, synthesizer and vocals. Their first release, "Grow
up and Blow up" EP, is scheduled for release early 2006.
Comparisons to DFA1979 and Add N to X.
Reigning from London are the Halucigenetics
who create a unique rap-dance-rock fusion that will
have the booties shaking. It's a crazy mix of synths, sampling,
and special effects. It's a crazy mix of synths, sampling, special
effects, and dub-overtones. A CD is in the works. In the meantime
come Rawk with the musical gawds.
NYC’s Mad
Happy originated as a band in
2002 and soon released their first full-length Feel Good Music...
for the Broke Middle Class. They hail from the garden state
of New Jersey in the good ole US of A. Their claim to fame (so
far) is that their latest release, Renegade Geeks (Mutiny Zoo
Records), has four tracks produced by former Talking Heads Chris
Frantz and Tina Weymouth. The sound is a mix of electro/hip-hop
combined with notions of pop energy and intelligent lyrics.
Rivka and Mike iLL create a distinctive and edgy sound and put
on a bizarre performance. This marks their first Toronto appearance.
DJ Triple-X spins an eclectic mix of shit
tunes between sets and after the show.
Crowbar
is a 200+ capacity space in the former confines of Volume
and Area 51. It’s a rock and roll bar with a huge stage,
great sound system and a chalk board to inscribe your latest
lyrical thoughts on.

Hoedown
Saturday Afternoon - April 29
The next Hoedown Saturday Afternoon
touches down on Saturday April 29th at the newly renovated Gladstone
Hotel Melody Bar. This monthly event happens 4pm to 7pm on the
last Saturday of every month with host Deejay Daddy-O
playing all the best in old-time Country-and-Western classics,
including Bluegrass, Cajun, Acadian, Zydeco, Rockabilly, Honky
Tonk and Hillbilly.
Dust off your dancing shoes and come party to the sounds of
Kitty Wells, Faron Young, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Flatt and
Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams and Stompin
Tom Connors.
Special Live Performance
“Toronto Country Twanger”, Andre Skinner,
will be performing a couple of acoustic sets during the afternoon.
Skinner is lead vocalist for the local four-piece country/rock
band, Canteen
Knockout.
“The Gladdy” was once a landmark institution for
local country music fans that would flock to the former Bronco’s
bar for a night of country music and two-stepping. Hoedown Saturday
Afternoon brings back that tradition “for those who remember
the days and for those who missed it”, says Deejay Daddy-O.
The Gladstone Hotel, built in 1889, is the oldest continuously
operating hotel in Toronto. This Victorian era building also
maintains the last hand operated elevator in the city. The kitchen
is scheduled to reopen shortly so stop by, grab a pint and some
grub, and enjoy the sleek-sounds of Deejay Daddy-O this Saturday
afternoon.
